Hosted by the 11th generation of the Yamada Family which has been teaching Tea ceremony since 1652, you will participate in a workshop to learn the Japanese views of nature and techniques handed down from the Jomon period at their undisclosed property. A unique “money washing ceremony” at Zeniarai Benten shrine to pray for the prosperity of business. Kamakura carving experience at Hakkodo originated 800 years ago followed by the fine healthy Chinese cuisine by the Enatsu family in a former villa of the royal family. Finish the Journey with a Family legacy lunch hosted by the 5th generation of the Fukuhara Family, the founder of Shiseido.

Host Yamada Family (since 1652)


Established in 1652 the Yamada Family runs "Sohen Tea School”, one of the 6 major tea ceremony schools in Japan and  100% family-owned by the 11th generation. Tea ceremony is known as “Sado" and is a respected "way of life" encompassing Japanese spirituality, aesthetics and life culture in general.  Sohen Tea School has around 4,000 students across Japan with some hundreds enthusiastic students continuing to learn over 60 years.


Rie specializes High end Travel and contributes as committee member for Japan Tourism and Cultural Agency. She also promotes high-end branding and special events as an ambassador to companies targeting the affluent strata.

Family visit Yamada Family (since 1652)

Beside the Sohen Tea School, Yamada Family runs “Urban Cabin Institute” which provides Right-brain Leadership Course to the global leaders based on the wisdom of over 370 years of succession. In this Learning Journey you will be invited to the Japan Gateway Programme to learn the way of Japanese life.

Beginning with WabiYoga, a wellness program that helps relieve brain and body fatigue and align the central axis of mind and body, the 11th generation of the Yamada family navigates you to the smallest negotiation space of the world.




 

Family visit Fukuhara Family (since 1872)


Fukuhara is a founding family of “Shiseido”, a leading company in Japan's beauty industry today. Established in 1872 as a Western-style pharmaceutical store in Ginza, the 2nd generation not only expanded the business but also introduced beautiful cultural elements from Western countries.


In 1921, the family made the decision to separate ownership and management, establishing a family business company “Fukuhara Corporation”, comprises 8 companies today.


As the final chapter in this learning journey, we extend a warm welcome to you at Shiseido Parlour, the prestigious restaurant of Shiseido, to enjoy lunchtime in Ginza.

Family visit Enatsu Family (since 1939)

The first generation left China in the 50’s and boarded a ship at random that ended up in Japan. In Japan, he worked as a cook at the Kamakura Nanpoen Restaurant. In 1939, he opened Kaseiro in Yokohama Chinatown. Later, he took over Kamakura Nanpoen and opened it as Kamakura Kaseiro.


In 1957, he established what later became Kaseiro Shoji Co Ltd and became chairman.


The second generation was born in Tokyo as an overseas Chinese. He expanded his business through acquiring real estate vigorously as well as opening restaurants in Chinatown.


The third generation, Hiroaki Enatsu, plays golf socially and strives for further business expansion.

Family visit Goto Family (since 1900)

Goto family roots back 800 years and created Buddhist statues for Zen temples. Today the family runs Hakkodo workshop that creates high-quality artistic carved wooden lacquerware.


Surviving the crisis of going out of business, Goto exhibited Buddhist statues and Kamakura carvings and was awarded at the Paris Expo in 1888 and St Louis in 1905, selling over 270 pieces out.


In 2006 Keiko became the first female head of the Goto family to express the modern form of Hakkodo passed on through design. And today her sister Naoko runs Hakkodo.
